Coach Keysha at CrossFit MadCity

Forged in Fire,
Built for Madison

CrossFit MadCity isn't just a gym — it's a proving ground for transformation. Built by Coach Keysha, a Division I strength and conditioning coach who has spent two decades developing elite athletes at the highest levels, and who brought that same fire to Madison in 2008.

From coaching NCAA national champions at the University of Wisconsin to training Olympic gold medalists at Cal State Fullerton, Keysha has been where your coaches dream of going. She built this gym so you can train with that same caliber of coaching — whether you're stepping into your first class or chasing your next PR.

From D1 Weight Rooms to Your Gym

Keysha isn't the kind of coach who got a weekend certification and opened a gym. She holds a Master of Science in Kinesiology with an emphasis in exercise physiology and strength and conditioning from Cal State Fullerton, where she was a student-athlete scholar. She's a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), USA Weightlifting certified, and CrossFit Level II certified.

Before bringing her expertise to Madison, Keysha built her career in some of the most competitive collegiate weight rooms in the country — developing athletes who went on to break records, win championships, and compete on the world stage.

What She's Built

At Wisconsin, Keysha managed her own weight room and coached 520 student-athletes across 13 teams. That year, the women's indoor track team won the 2007 NCAA Indoor National Championship — the first in school history and the first by any Big Ten school ever. A world record and two American records were broken under her watch.

At Cal State Fullerton, she trained three Olympic and National Team softball players, including four-time gold medalist Lisa Fernandez. At San Diego, her volleyball squad was ranked #15 nationally and football saw quarterback Josh Johnson drafted by Tampa Bay. At Iowa, the field hockey team finished 4th at the NCAA tournament and won the Big Ten Championship.

Beyond the Barbell

Keysha doesn't just coach — she builds communities. She organized and ran the annual MadTown Challenge, raising over $60,000 for charity between 2009 and 2021. She's served as a motivational speaker across Madison-area schools, coached track and field at four local high schools, ran a running club through Fleet Feet, and was personally selected as an Under Armour Round Table speaker.

She's been on the ground floor of CrossFit culture — working the CrossFit Games as event staff and organizing the CrossFit Games Kids event at Monona Terrace for over 500 children. She became Wisconsin's first Lululemon Ambassador, and she brings that same pioneering energy to everything she touches.

Now, with CrossFit MadCity, she's channeling two decades of elite coaching, community building, and relentless drive into a gym built for you — whether you're a seasoned competitor or someone who's never touched a barbell. This is the next chapter, and it's rising.

Everything You Need to Know

What is CrossFit?

CrossFit advocates a mix of aerobic exercise, gymnastics (body weight exercises), and Olympic weight lifting. CrossFit describes its strength and conditioning program as constantly varied, high-intensity, functional movement with a stated goal of improving fitness, which it defines as "work capacity across broad time and modal domains."

Hour-long classes at affiliated gyms, or "boxes", typically include a warm-up, a period of individual or group stretching, a skill development segment, and the high-intensity "Workout of the Day" (or WOD). Performance on each WOD is often scored and/or ranked to encourage competition and to allow individuals to track their progress.

Why Should I Choose CrossFit MadCity?

CrossFit MadCity has a long history within the CrossFit culture. Opening in 2009, CrossFit MadCity was the first CrossFit gym in Madison and was one of the first few hundred CrossFit gyms in the world out of what is now tens of thousands.

Coach Keysha has been involved with CrossFit since the very early days and was one of the first fifty individuals to be CrossFit-certified by Greg and Lauren Glassman in June 2005. At CrossFit MadCity, we focus on helping you reach your full athletic potential. Whether you have never lifted a weight before or you have been swinging kettlebells for years, we help you improve your form and increase your efficiency.

Do I Need Any Experience?

No previous experience is necessary! Many of our regulars started at CrossFit MadCity with little to no experience. Our coaches will guide you through each workout and help you improve your form and technique during every class.

Our coaches train you in everything from strength, to agility, to flexibility, and much more.

How Do I Get Started?

We recommend starting with our Intro to CrossFit class. Most members spend 8-10 weeks in our Intro class before they join the regular CrossFit classes.

However, it is not required and, depending on your athletic abilities, you may be able to participate in regular classes more quickly. Book your free intro to get started.

"The phoenix must burn to emerge. Your next chapter begins the moment you decide to rise."
